30th World Cup Opening in Sölden as legendary ski World Cup classic

The World Cup Opening Sölden has long since become a legend and is already celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The two giant slalom races with a start at 3,040 metres are considered real classics of the Alpine World Cup winter. Apart from the final, they are the only races in the World Cup calendar where the men and women race on the same slope. For the racers, this giant slalom is considered the most difficult of the season.

Experience the world's skiing elite up close in Sölden

The long steep slope with a gradient of up to 65 percent is considered the biggest challenge and therefore the key point for the racers. The advantage for the spectators is that almost the entire race course is directly visible. The thousands of spectators in the finish area admire the technical skills of the world's best in person. At the same time, they can follow the hundredths of a second thriller with a quick glance at the intermediate time board and video wall. The whole thing is framed by the panorama of the Glacier Arena Sölden.

Let yourself be inspired by the Sölden spirit

Hardly anywhere else can you experience the Ski World Cup as closely and comfortably as in Sölden. On Saturday and Sunday, shuttle buses run from Sölden directly to the World Cup site on the glacier. The use of the shuttle buses is included in the entrance fee and is also free of charge for ski pass holders. It is not only during the races that the spectators and fan clubs contribute to the unique atmosphere at the World Cup opener. The fan club parade is a highlight every year, and the after-show parties in Sölden keep the party going late into the night.
